When ‘bad’ things happen, they don’t tend to happen in ones.. but come in multiples! Let’s count the things that went wrong in the last day and a bit.
Wednesday morning – Had booked tyre change for the camper, as it has been dry roads for the past month on my travels. Wake-up to finding that overnight we’ve had about 20cm of snow .. drive to cancel the tyre change and reschedule for next week.. not a biggie, but it was going to add about 700km driving for me!
Wednesday midday – Go to buy some AdBlue for the camper – get stuck at Motonet parking lot in the slush, even with winter tyres.. spend 15min trying to get out of the parking lot… FUN!
Wednesday afternoon – Driving to Kotka, camper starts to give warning lights ‘ Stop&Start not available’ .. OK.. who cares I think. An hour later… CHECK ENGINE!! warning comes on.. perfect.. it’s not like I have about 40 days of driving to come!! Search on Google what the warning means.. manage to book a service check for Thursday in Joensuu (where I am heading to)
Wednesday evening – Nervously drive the 45km to the camping area for the night, looking at the orange CHECK ENGINE warning on the dash.
Thursday morning – actually positive – a lovely 6am walk in the -17 degrees listening to the frozen trees and enjoying a moment of calm
Thursday midday – managed to get to Joensuu, car checked.. something needs replacing.. but they can only get the part by Monday.. eeeer and brrr…what to do.. try to book a fault check elsewhere or come to Joensuu to get it fixed.. after a while decide Joensuu is the ‘easiest’ .. even if it means ANOTHER 700km roundtrip on Monday to get this done.
Thursday afternoon – heading for a shower at the camping area in Joensuu… slip on the ice.. fall down and get a throbbing pain in the wrist and elbow.
Thursday evening – wife sends a message from home… ‘Not what you want to hear, but our Kia has a huge crack on the front windscreen…’
By this time – I just am willing for the day to end!! But still two hours of the day left… I am sure something can still go wrong!
But .. we can turn this all to positive : I got to reschedule the tyre change for free, the camper is still working and I am ‘OK to drive it until Monday, I did get out of the Motonet parking lot, I do have the time to drive to get the camper repaired on Monday, my wrist and elbow don’t hurt TOO bad anymore and… I got a broken windscreen in the camper THREE times last spring, so I know easily where to get those fixed.
But yeah… could have down without some of these things!
